Smarter workforce management achieves operational cost savings at 5 star resort

Challenge

Our client manages a 5 star resort in one of WA’s most desired tourist destinations. After initial discussions it was evident that there were two key challenges impacting our client’s ability to successfully place and keep skilled team members. These issues included:

  • Seasonal tourism driving significant fluctuations in demand for staff
  • Geographic proximity to a pool of suitable job seekers

Our client had tried a variety of different measures to combat these challenges however these measures proved to be even more detrimental to the business, resulting in:

  • Significant costs being incurred
  • Hassles and distraction for the management team in the day to day running of the business
  • Providing costly housing and transport for up to 50 staff

These results meant that the effect on the financial performance of their business was not only the quantifiable cost (amounting to several hundred thousands of dollars a year), but also the unquantifiable effect of the distractions experienced by the management team.

Solution

After being engaged by our client we were able to implement strategies to address the:

  • Management of all HR aspects of temporary, casual and seasonal staff
  • Increase the number of quality candidates by leveraging our international talent pool to improve the quality and skills of staff being placed
  • Lack of local staff accommodation by sourcing, managing and operating nearby accommodation for employee rental
  • Issue of transportation by developing and implementing a no cost transport solution

Result

By implementing these tailored strategies we were able to seamlessly deliver:

  • Access to high calibre staff on demand
  • Reduction in costs amounting to several hundred thousand dollars a year
  • A mechanism for accountability
  • Elimination of legal and operational distractions
